Treatment
Strain Counter-Strain- An Osteopathic manual medicine technique. It emphasizes correction of abnormal neuromuscular reflexes by applying a position of comfort for a short period of time while the patient remained passive.
Trigger points- A trigger point is a hyperirritable tender spot in an abused muscle that refers pain. This is why the pain in your head may be coming from a neck muscle and the pain in your neck from a shoulder muscle and the pain in your low back from a hip muscle. To treat Trigger Points, heavy pressure must be applied to the Trigger Point. Trigger Point therapy can reduce pain, increase movement, and allows the muscles to lengthen and become stronger again. Light pressure is not effective for treating Trigger Points, and in fact may increase spasms as the muscle tries to protect itself, leading to increased and more constant pain. In contrast, moderate to heavy pressure applied to a Trigger Point causes the pain to initially increase, but then as the muscle relaxes the pain will fade.
Muscle Energy Techniques- Muscle energy is a direct, noninvasive manual therapy used to normalize joint dysfunction and increase range of motion. the affected joints are moved in precise positions that enable the client to perform gentle muscle contractions to help correct neuromuscular and joint difficulties.
Massage- Fosters faster healing of strained muscles and sprained ligaments; reduces pain and swelling; reduces formation of excessive scar tissue
Deep transverse friction- Transverse massage is applied by the finger(s) directly to the lesion and transverse to the direction of the fibers. It can be used after an injury and for mechanical overuse in muscular, tendinous and ligamentous structure. It will quickly result in an analgesic effect over the treated area and is not at all a painful experience to the patient.
Myofascial release- Myofascial Release is a passive stretching technique that uses feedback from the patient's tissues to determine the direction, amplitude and length of the stretch. The therapist relies on this feedback to achieve maximum relaxation of the tight or restricted tissues without the discomfort often associated with intense stretching
McConnell taping- McConnell Taping is a bracing or strapping technique using a super-rigid, cotton mesh, highly adhesive tape. Most commonly, it is used for patellofemoral syndrome, shoulder subluxation, lumbar, foot, and hip impingement
Manual Lymph Drainage- Using light, rhythmic strokes, the therapist facilitates improved and increased lymph circulation for severe swelling for conditions such as lymphedema
Accupressure- an ancient healing technique that uses the fingers to press key points on the surface of the skin to stimulate the body's natural self-curative abilities. When these points are pressed, they release muscular tension and promote the circulation of blood and the body's life force (sometimes known as qi or chi) to aid healing. Acupuncture and acupressure use the same points, but acupuncture employs needles, while acupressure uses the gentle, but firm pressure of hands
Kinesiotaping- KINESIO TEX ® TAPE will lift the skin to increase the space between the skin and muscle. This reduced localized pressure help promote circulation, lymphatic drainage and lessens the irritation on the subcutaneous neural pain receptors.
